Ryan Gosling Will Be Working With Director Derek Cianfrance Again

Ryan Gosling will be reunited with a director he’s worked with twice before, Derek Cianfrance, on the new Wolfman film from Universal. Monster movies are making a comeback and so is Ryan Gosling. Just recently, it was reported that he will most likely be assuming the role of Ken in Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach’s long awaited Barbie film. Now, the Oscar-nominated La La Land star will be pairing with a filmmaker he’s worked with two times previously on the creature feature, Wolfman. That director, Derek Cianfrance, made two high-profile Gosling vehicles: The Place Beyond the Pines and, before that, the much loved dramatic film, Blue Valentine.

The upcoming creature movie’s original director Leigh Whannell (of The Invisible Man fame) had conflicting schedules with the production of Wolfman which caused him to bow out of the project leading to Cianfrance officially coming on board. Cianfrance will also be penning the screenplay for Wolfman. It was previously reported that Nicholas Hoult will be starring in yet another creature film for Universal called Renfield and, besides that one, there’s also Elizabeth Banks’ upcoming Invisible Woman. But, Wolfman is a standalone horror picture that will most likely draw the biggest crowds thanks to Gosling’s involvement with the project. Gosling will also be producing the movie alongside none other than Jason Blum. Gosling is a true actor’s actor. He truly came into the spotlight as a serious actor with 2004’s The Notebook and received a Best Actor Oscar nod early in his career back when he played a teacher who was addicted to drugs in 2006’s intriguing film, Half Nelson. With 2016’s La La Land, Gosling truly delivered a great performance in that musical where he played opposite the multi-talented Emma Stone who won the Oscar for Best Actress for that same movie. While nobody expects Gosling to earn an Oscar nod for Wolfman, given his decent track record with Academy Award nominations, anything can happen. With past Wolfman actors Lon Chaney, Jr and Benicio Del Toro being considered for their performances, Gosling has some pretty big shoes to fill playing the part. But, Gosling is more than up to the task of playing this high-profile role especially under Cianfrance’s expert guidance. As for that aforementioned Barbie project, many already know that this upcoming movie will star Margot Robbie in the title role with Gosling assuming the part of Ken. It’s anyone’s guess how that film will go but Gosling and Robbie will add great star power to that project which is definitely very interesting, to say the least. Gosling has a nice slate of films ahead and Cianfrance declares working with Gosling again “a dream come true,” according to sources. More will be unveiled on Gosling’s new films as details are released. Leave your thoughts on Wolfman‘s repairing of Ryan Gosling and Derek Cianfrance below in the comments section.
