Emma Thompson Boards Forthcoming Action Film

Oscar winner Emma Thompson has just been cast in an action thriller, The Fisherwoman, which is slated to be directed by Brian Kirk. Emma Thompson has been making something of a comeback lately. Not that she ever really went away. It’s just that she seems to be more prolific now than ever. The acclaimed Academy Award winner is going to be taking on a role in an eagerly awaited picture called The Fisherwoman. Thompson will play a woman who is widowed and soon finds herself helping a young teenager in the middle of a blizzard. This teen was going to be kidnapped and the woman will join forces with the kid in order to save the day.

Thompson is fresh off rave reviews for her brave work in the sex dramedy, Good Luck to You, Leo Grande where she played a woman who hires a male escort to help her get through her recent turmoil in life. Had this year not been so crowded with great female performances, Thompson would have been a shoo-in for another Oscar nod. Thompson can also be seen in Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical. Great performances by Thompson have been a guaranteed occurrence throughout the years. In 2006, Thompson won praise for her work opposite Will Ferrell in Stranger Than Fiction. In 2013, Thompson earned many accolades for her performance alongside Tom Hanks in Saving Mr. Banks. In 2021, Thompson played the high profile role of the Baroness in Cruella. She played a nice juicy role opposite another Oscar winner, Emma Stone, in that box-office hit which is perhaps one of her most widely seen roles. Thompson has Academy Awards for both writing and acting. She won her first Academy Award for her lead acting work in Howard’s End and her second for writing Sense and Sensibility. She has always remained one of the most hard-working actresses working in show business. She is also known for receiving a coveted Emmy for her work as Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for her turn on Ellen DeGeneres’ hit show, “Ellen.” The Fisherwoman sounds like a great vehicle for Thompson to sink her teeth into. Action films are not necessarily her forte but if any director knows action movies like the back of his hand, it’s Brian Kirk, who directed the late, great Chadwick Boseman in 2019’s 21 Bridges. That action-packed extravaganza will pave the way for the greatly anticipated The Fisherwoman. This upcoming Thompson film promises to keep audiences on the edge of their seats throughout and with Thompson at the helm, you can expect some Oscar-caliber acting alongside the thrills.
