From writer/director Paul Thomas Anderson comes a new coming-of-age film that takes place in the 1970s Los Angeles, centering on a professional teenage actor who falls hopelessly in love with the girl of his dreams. Check out the first official trailer for PTA’s eagerly anticipated new feature film “Licorice Pizza,” which seemingly feels like a return to the director’s childhood and early films. The upcoming film introduces first-time actor Cooper Hoffman, who is also known as the son of the late actor Philip Seymour Hoffman. In the film, Cooper Hoffman plays Gary Valentine, a professional child actor, who is also a socially awkward high school student from San Fernando Valley. Gary’s life is upended when he meets and falls in love with a local, free-spirited girl. She is played by indie rock singer/musician Alana Haim, from the sister trio band “Haim.” Bradley Cooper also co-stars in the film, portraying ’70s celebrity hairdresser Jon Peters who was known for having a romantic relationship with actress Barbra Streisand before becoming a big-time Hollywood film producer (Batman, Wild Wild West) in the 80s and 90s. The supporting cast also includes Sean Penn, Tom Waits, Benny Safdie, and Maya Rudolph. “Licorice Pizza” is Paul Thomas Anderson’s ninth feature film and his fourth to be set in his childhood town of San Fernando Valley, following Boogie Nights, Magnolia, and Punch-Drunk Love. The film is being released exclusively in select theaters on November 26th, before expanding nationwide on Christmas, December 25th.
