The covid-19 nationwide pandemic caused Chinese cinemas to shut down in late January, which caused more than 2,000 theaters to shut down permanently within the first two months due to loss of so much business. With the appropriate health measures Chinese movie theaters are trying to apply several health measures to be green-lit so they can re-open. Health measures including intense disinfection procedures, enhanced air ventilation, reducing visitor amount, and utilizing face masks. Another big question is what movies they’ll be able to premiere and show when theaters re-open, since several films have held back release dates due to the pandemic, so there is a shortage of film supply as of right now. Some studios have even resulted in releasing their films via streaming platforms while everyone is self distancing and quarantining due to the stay-at-home order. ‘Interstellar’ is one of the films that is most likely to be one of the films to release when theaters start to reopen. There is no set date on when they will re-open but the preparation has begun since the virus spread in China has slowed and is under more control.
