Pitch Rejected for a Good Will Hunting Sequel
Matt Damon and Ben Affleck have rejected a pitch for a sequel to their 1997 Oscar-winning hit, Good Will Hunting. At the end of 1997’s masterpiece, Good Will Hunting, a genius named Will (Matt Damon) leaves a note for his therapist, Sean (Robin Williams), with Will telling Sean in the note that he’s choosing to go see about a girl rather than take on a highly paid mathematical profession. Then, shortly after that, the end credits roll. We’ll never know if Will reunited with that girl, Skylar (Minnie Driver), because Damon and Affleck have rejected a proposal to make a sequel to their beloved classic film which won the Best Original Screenplay Oscar and was nominated for Best Picture.

The duo of Ben Affleck and Matt Damon have a new film coming out titled, Air which is going to propel them back into stardom if the early reviews are any indication. At the recent premiere of that film in Los Angeles, Damon was vocal about not wanting to make the sequel to Good Will Hunting which was proposed to him recently. Ben Affleck wanted Damon to not mention it to the public, but Damon did and, now, there is some disappointment to those who wanted a sequel to the 1997 movie. It would be hard to make a sequel to the 1997 picture because Damon and Driver are much older now. What would they do together in a sequel? Share their characters’ lives with their kids on screen? Plus, Robin Williams is now sadly deceased. Williams won the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his superb work in the original film, Good Will Hunting. The romance between Driver and Damon set the big screen ablaze back in 1997. If not for Jack and Rose coming out shortly after in Titanic, Skylar and Will would have been the most romantic couple that year. Both Damon and Driver received Oscar nominations for their performances in the 1997 highly regarded film. Turning the attention to Air, many industry insiders have pegged it as the best movie of 2023 so far. Damon will be back in the spotlight again after some box-office hits (see: The Martian or the Bourne movies that starred him) and some good films that didn’t quite gel at the box-office (Stuck on You, We Bought a Zoo). Affleck is behind the camera directing the actor and Damon says Affleck is his, “ride or die.” While we won’t know if Will Hunting got to go see about a girl successfully, we can see him design the Air Jordan Nike sneaker in Air on April 5th.
